Hampton Outdoor Living
This glamourous house, located on a private wooded lot, stole the hearts of the current owners. In 2018, after several showings in the area, the current homeowners came across this house and fell in love with its proximity to town, the tree-lined street, and the over half acre lot. Built in 1990 as a French provincial style house, it had great bones, but it required extensive interior and exterior renovations to meet the needs of the family and a modern lifestyle.
Hyland Homes took the homeowners’ vision and brought it to life with a new façade and entry/doorway that was custom built in Poland. They also raised the former eyebrow windows and added dormers and new windows to create a more dramatic façade and roofline, completely changing the look and feel of the home.
To meet the family’s desire to have an inviting outdoor entertainment option, a new outdoor living area was created from a previously screened-in porch, featuring an outdoor fireplace and a tiered deck with an Italian custom pizza oven. A Hampton’s style landscaped backyard was designed by creating several defined entertainment areas and incorporating the abundant use of boxwoods, hydrangeas, and lavender to create a warm and inviting area for guests to enjoy a warm summer evening.
The dramatic re-design of this house is a great example of taking a dated home, infusing it with modern touches to bring it back to life again for a contemporary lifestyle.

Saddle Hill Farm -
This spectacular eight-acre estate is one-of-a-kind in the area. Originally built in 1947 as a Greek Revival farmhouse, it has only had three owners and has remained true to its original design. In 2002, the interior and exterior of the home was fully renovated. The renovation took the dated home into the 21st century by adding a second floor, four bedrooms, three bathrooms, an updated kitchen to the main house, as well as new flooring and windows throughout.
The guest house also saw renovations at that time, as well as exterior improvements to the home, including new awnings designed to look like the original awnings that the home use to feature.
The drives, walkways, gardens and yard in the front and rear of the home have also been removed and re-landscaped. This year, a back deck was added, as well as vegetable and herb gardens, which have been incorporated onto the property.
The original brick barn has been updated and a new barn has been added to the property. Currently, four horses reside on the property, and the care of these horses is a passion of the homeowner.
If you live in the area, you are surely aware of upcoming holidays, as the owner decorates the front fence line with seasonal decorations – in the fall, pumpkins are on every fence post, and during the holidays, garland and festive lights highlight the fence along the property.
The care and maintenance of this beautiful estate is a personal passion of the owner and is loved by those who visit the home or just drive by and experience its quiet elegance.

Art Deco Infused -
This unique historic house was built in 1927 for W.W. Kimball Jr, the great nephew of the founder of the Kimball Piano Company family. Built by Clement Siffel and designed by S.W. Wilkins, this 94-year-old house has nearly 4200 square feet of inviting living space and is situated on three quarters of an acre.
In 1992, the house was renovated with a two-story addition, and in 2018, the current owners purchased the property and completely renovated the Art Deco pool, grotto, and spa from the shell to the tiles and copings.
As part of the landscape rehabilitation, 85 dead or dying trees were removed from the property and were replaced with new landscaping. Artificial turf has been installed to provide a maintenance free grass area behind the pool. A bone-shaped dog run and lower tier bocci court with seating area was installed in an area that previously had not been utilized. To round out the mixture of landscape, garden boxes were added to the rear of the property to accommodate for fruit and vegetable gardens.
The upper deck was previously covered with trees and bushes that blocked the sunroom and prevented a view of the pool from the home. A complete renovation of the area featured the addition of hardscapes and an 8-foot granite glass enclosed fire pit for entertainment. The stairs from the upper deck to the lower deck were renovated with limestone caps to accent the waterfall feature and modernize the stairs. The stairs to the home have been widened, and dramatic lighting has been installed to increase the dramatic views from the home.
The exterior of the home has been painted in indigo Batik blue and accented with white trim and black window framing, and the interior has been modernized with a California Spanish-inspired design.
The owners love to entertain and give back to charity - this home provides them with a beautiful venue for hosting charity events in their backyard during the year.

Dramatic Zook Revival -
Built in 1936, this Historic Tudor Revival home is a beautiful example of a R. Harold Zook designed house. The current owners are long-time residents of Hinsdale, and when this charming house became available, they saw it as an opportunity to restore and renovate a significant historic house and build their dream home. In 2015, the owners undertook a massive renovation and expansion, more than doubling the homes’ square footage and honoring the design elements of an English manor home with contemporary living spaces and amenities for a modern family.
The view from the south side of the property, looking north towards all four intricate levels is particularly impressive. The home is now situated to maximize the depth of the property and integrates a beautiful new pool as an extension of the lower-level walk-out that includes an expansive family room, caterer’s kitchen, and large English style bar. The outdoor fireplace in the screened-in three season room offers warmth on cool nights and outdoor dining just off the main kitchen and family room. The pool house has a nautical theme and features a dry bar and beverage fridge, full bathroom, towel and pool supply storage, laundry facility, and an upper level that offers an open-air year-round lounge space for the homeowners’ children and their friends.
The upper bluestone terrace space, curved stairs, and main ground level terrace are original to the home and were extended around the pool deck and now include complementary limestone coping around the water’s edge. The pool is designed to be a “reflecting pond” since most homes built in the original era of the 1930s would not have had turquoise swimming pools but instead similar water features. The pool tile work is in dark blue/gray tones, and the interior of the pool is painted to match to provide depth, dimension, and reflection.
The mature landscaping provides maximum privacy, seasonal interest, and complements other plantings and stone elements. Exterior lighting provides a dramatic effect in the evenings. The limestone stacked boulders provide texture and color.
The homeowners of this beautiful home are proud of the work and the independent study on significant historic architecture for the Village of Hinsdale.

Summer House -
This Low Country Coastal house was built in 2020. The homeowners wanted to build a home that reflected childhood memories, while providing a warm and inviting place for family and friends to gather and spend time together creating lifelong memories.
The kitchen is typically the heart of any home, but here the outdoor kitchen is the centerpiece. The space the homeowners affectionately call the “Summer House,” is where it is at, and sees everything from the homeowners’ children hanging out to adult parties! The space, located in the rear of the home, was designed to honor the childhood memories of time spent at the owner’s grandparent’s summer home. The vision was to create a fully functional space for both relaxing and entertaining. The Summer House has it all – a place for cooking and grilling, stainless steel cabinets that are functional any time of the year, refrigeration, and audio-visual elements. The radiant floors provide heat in the cooler months and cool for hot summer days. A gorgeous nine-foot wood burning fireplace features a unique pattern on the inside with a soldier course and trimmed with herringbone thin brick. A loft area provides a space for children to hang out all year-round and has also been used as a DJ stage.
Comfort and fun drives the decorating for this outdoor entertaining space, which includes a pool and spa. Anything to improve a visitor’s experience was met with a resounding “yes” from the homeowners, ensuring anyone who visits their home is warmly received.

Bohemian Casual -
The backyard of this Mid-Century Ranch house was created to evoke the feel of a lake house oasis for the current owners.
To create this oasis, the homeowners cleared old and dead landscaping and re-engineered the topography of the backyard to make room for a new pool which was installed in the last two years for true swimming. The homeowners and their two grown kids are all avid swimmers, so the pool was built with that in mind. The pool has been designed to swim laps for exercise as well as space for pool volleyball, basketball, and all-around fun!
Retaining walls were added, and the yard was leveled to maximize the pool area and to create an inviting entertainment space. The cabana was built to extend the square footage of the home providing a versatile space for a family who has recently downsized. The vision for this bohemian style cabana was to provide a comfortable and casual space for visiting family and friends - giving them a place to call their own during their stay.
This exceptionally large extended family uses the backyard oasis space often, providing an amazing place for family to safely gather especially last year during the pandemic.
